ABSTRACT
We investigated the stability of length extensional, transversely poled and driven (32-mode) single crystals fabricated from a morphotropic lead zinc niobate–lead titanate composition under mechanical compression and electric field. A surface that defines the thermal, mechanical, and electrical variables required for stable 32-mode operation is developed. The results are compared to 31-mode. Ferroelastoelectric state shifts in domain engineered single crystals are briefly discussed.
