ABSTRACT
The article reports that Motorola has launched APX700 XE, a multiband portable radio designed based on firefighter feedback and field-testing. Some features of the Phase II-compatible radio include global positioning system (GPS) location tracking and voice and data support. According to the article, the radio uses a two-microphone design to address concerns of firefighters over digital audio quality. Furthermore, the radio can be tied into the biometric shirts of firefighters to monitor their health.
