The article discusses the growth of snow molds in the tundra in Niwot Ridge, Colorado. It mentions the investigation of scientists at the University of Colorado including microbial ecologist Steve Schmidt and Ken Wilson who discovered that these fungi are everywhere under snow in the Western subalpine, conifer forests and tundra. It notes that these snow molds are actually a combination of many other fungi including the prominent white coral fungus.
