ABSTRACT
The article presents information on mainframe computer operating system virtual machine environment (VME). VME was developed by International Computers Ltd. in the 1960s and released commercially in the 1970s. The operating system (OS) proved remarkably popular. It says that the VME and its applications are being tweaked to run on modern server platforms such as Windows/Intel and Linux/Intel. The system is also being adapted for cloud computing deployments.
