The article presents a study which examined the complexities of mentoring discourse and agentive teacher preparation. The examination is said to be needed to better prepare student teachers to be involved agentively with the powerful status quo in schools. It was observed that dialogic praxis in mentoring relationships can be significant for both student teacher and mentor to imagine and practise agentive action in contexts outside the mentoring relationship.
