ABSTRACT
The article presents a study conducted by the Government Accountability Office (GAO) which examines the effectiveness of the Mérida Initiative in providing counternarcotics and anticrime support to Mexico and Central American countries. The Office reveals the introduction of equipment on such countries because of the initiative like the helicopters, X-ray inspection devices and law enforcement canines. The mechanisms established for the initiative's implementionation are identified, too.
