Plans Face Valuation and Other Challenges When Investing in Hedge Funds and Private Equity

The article discusses the study by the Government Accountability Office (GAO) on defined benefit pensions plans which millions of citizens are relying on for their retirement benefits in the U.S. GAO found an increase in the number of private and public sector plans that have invested in hedge funds and private equity that posed risks and challenges. GAO recommended that the Secretary of Labor provide guidance that will help the fiduciaries assess their capacity to invest in hedge funds.
