ABSTRACT
The article discusses research by Winfried Wilcke, a nanoscale-science manager at IBM Research, to develop a battery for electric vehicles that can perform better than lithium-ion batteries. Wilcke is working to develop metal-air batteries which have one metal electrode is a metal while the other electrode will be air. IBM's goal is to make a car battery which can carry a family of four 500 miles down the road.
