ABSTRACT
The article discusses the plans of BAE Systems to develop hybrid drives and electronic control equipment for the railway industry. BAE Systems business development director for rail transport Chris Colston says that lithium-ion batteries using nanophosphate technology provide the best energy density of any product that is commercially available. The author adds that BAE Systems is aiming at the railway industry, specifically light rail applications. The plan of the firm to develop a diesel-hybrid drive is also discussed.
