The article discusses the importance for organizations and their leaders to exercise both the hard power and soft power approaches to leadership. The authors claim that most senior leaders exhibit hard power, based on their reflex responses and aversion to change. They say that soft power characteristics such as humility and selflessness are viewed by leaders as not as important as hard power characteristics such as self-confidence, which limits their leadership ability.
