ABSTRACT
The article offers information on a study which investigated the correlation between serum levels of adinopectin and leptin with various insulin sensitivity and insulin-like growth factors (IGF) in prepuberal small for gestational age (SGA) children with and without catch-up growth. The study also examined whether adinopectin and leptin can be used as early markers of insulin resistance. The differences in the leptin levels between the SGA group and the appropriate for gestational age (AGA) group are explained.

Leptin seems to play a significant role in the regulation of pituitary GH secretion. In GH deficient children serum leptin level is higher than in GH sufficient ones. Administration of rhGH resulted in a significant decrease in serum leptin in GH deficient but also in children displaying...

Problem statement: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the role of resistin and Tumor Necrosis Factor-α (TNF-α) in insulin resistance during pregnancy. Approach: Serum resistin and TNF-α concentrations were measured by ELISA in 86 healthy pregnant women (26, 23 and 37 of them in...

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the role of Interleukin-lβ (IL-1β) in Insulin Resistance (IR) during normal pregnancy. This cross sectional study was carried out on 86 healthy pregnant women including 26, 23 and 37 individuals in the 1st, 2nd and 3rd trimesters, respectively and...

Phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase (PI3K) couples the leptin and insulin signalling pathways via the insulin receptor substrates IRS1 and IRS2. Hence, defective activation of PI3K could be a novel mechanism of peripheral leptin or insulin resistance. We investigated associations of tagging...

Obesity and diabetes mellitus are associated with low or elevated serum leptin and insulin levels (U-like relation). Mutations in LEP and INS are linked to decreases in leptin and insulin while mutations in LEPR and INSR are linked to their increase. Homozygous LEP mutations are associated with...
