ABSTRACT
The article presents a study conducted by the U.S. Government Accountability Office on the implications of the Deficit Reduction Act (DRA) of 2005. It cites the economic recession for the state Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) programs and work participation rates. The study found out that the TANF work participation rates had changed after DRA was enacted and that many states have faced budget deficits and difficult decisions on the use of state resources for TANF programs.
