ABSTRACT
The article presents a reprint of the article "Research allocations: Should societal concerns drive the research agenda?," by Roger Collier, which appeared at www.cmaj.ca on May 10, 2010. It says that medical research is motivated by the curiosity of researchers. According to Marco Di Buono of Heart and Stroke Foundation, an approach to strategic research is to give researchers freedom to express their ideas. It mentions the health issues in Canada, such as chronic diseases in older people.
