ABSTRACT
The article focuses on the behavior of the money supply in 1980 after the U.S. Federal Reserve System instituted a monetary control policy that utilized nonborrowed-reserve operating targets and lagged-reserve accounting. It presents a microeconomic analysis with bank credit and bank reserve markets. It states that the U.S. Federal Open Market Committee specifies an intrayearly target for the money supply's growth rate and also specifies an initial target for borrowed reserves as an average to be met during the intermeeting interval.
