ABSTRACT
The article focuses on the work of Louise Wiener, special assistant for Cultural Affairs in the U.S. Department of Commerce in 1977, and the department's role in boosting the arts industry. It says that Wiener's office aims to formulate a pervasive cultural affairs policy by bolstering the economic significance of the industry. Wiener also explains that since people in the arts are involved in trading and that the major benefactors are corporations, it is logical that the Department of Commerce should be involved.
