ABSTRACT
The article discusses the challenges that have prevented credit unions in the U.S. from taking advantage of the small-banking industry's problems. According to the article, credit unions must confront the rising costs of bailing out failed peers and the network of corporate credit unions. The two largest corporate credit unions are in receivership and others would be bankrupt without government guarantees. How the National Credit Union Administration is planning to address these concerns is discussed.
