The article reports on the inauguration of the railway wheel rolling mill in Lovere, Italy owned by specialist and high technology steel maker Lucchini RS. The firm's investment in the mill is part of a strategy that aims to dominate the niche market for locomotive and high speed trainset wheels. According to Lucchini, the mill combines production and cutting in one sequence without warehousing between the operations. The plant is expected to increase annual production capacity while globalization is seen as an opportunity to supply niche markets.
