ABSTRACT
The article focuses on the responsibility of the Trenitalia-LeNord joint venture to take over the operation of regional railway services within Lombardia. Giuseppe Biesuz, managing director of FNM and chief executive of the joint venture, points out the importance of providing quality service to attract more passengers out of cars and justify higher rates. He sees the absence of market for privatization and believes in the impossibility for Italian train operators to compete on the wider market due to budgetary constraints and state intervention.
