The article focuses on the proliferation of improvised explosive devices (IED) and actions to address the problem. The three lines of operations of the Joint IED Defeat Organization are described, along with efforts by the European Defence Agency (EDA) to counter the IED threat. The capabilities of foliage- and ground-penetrating radars, such as those developed by SRI International, Lockheed Martin and 3d-Radar, are discussed. Task Force Odin is examined, as well as standoff search systems and several detection systems.
