ABSTRACT
The article focuses on the issue of mobility in fighting vehicles. A background on the changing standards for fighting vehicles is provided, with emphasis on the factors in Somalia and Iraq that brought them about. The Mine Resistant Ambush Protected (Mrap) era is described, along with the main characteristics of vehicles in this era. Two major programs, the Mrap-All Terrain Vehicle (M-ATV) and Joint Light Tactical Vehicle (JLTV), in the U.S. are discussed, as well as the various ways that European manufacturers address the needs of their armies.
