ABSTRACT
The article discusses a plan by Democrats in the U.S. Senate to impose a 33 percent tax on investment fund manager profits. The tax is part of a legislative package to extend unemployment benefits in the U.S. The Senate tax proposal is weaker than the one favored by the U.S House of Representatives. Both the U.S. House and Senate are believed to be working on a compromise tax rate and Republican Senator Olympia Snowe of Maine is seen as the most likely to join with the Democrats.
