The article reports on an increase which is being seen in the number of U.S. credit card issuers, including Citigroup Inc. and Discover Financial Services, that are developing new rewards programs for credit card customers, including programs which encourage financial responsibility, in an effort to attract and retain what they consider to be the best credit card customers. The impact the programs will have on consumers and the credit card issuers is examined.
