ABSTRACT
The article presents views of researcher and director of the Urban Health Research Initiative in British Columbia, Thomas Kerr on the role of scientists, expressed at the annual conference of the Ontario HIV/AIDS Treatment Network in Toronto on November 17. He feels that when political leaders ignore scientific evidence on controversial topics like safe injection sites, scientists should speak out. He says that the principal role of science is to advance human understanding.
