ABSTRACT
The article presents a study which demonstrates that rapid screening using polymerase chain reaction (PCR) can determine a population of patients where simple and benign interventions can have a significant impact on clinical outcomes in the Netherlands. There were 6,771 patients screened for the presence of Staphylococcus aureus nasal colonization wherein 808 underwent surgical procedures. Methicillin and muciporin staph strains were identified in the study.
