The article discusses the effort and dedication of the National Audubon Society to build a nature center in Los Angeles, California. It notes that Audubon is committed to protect birds and wildlife. Chief executive officer (CEO) John Flicker initiated an effort to reach out to ethnically diverse urban communities by constructing various nature centers nationwide. In 2003, the Audubon center in Debs Park was opened to public. The center was the first platinum-rated Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) structure in the U.S.
