ABSTRACT
The article discusses the modern endovascular and surgical treatments for intracranial occlusive disease. It mentions the studies that have used positron emission tomography (PET) to detect oxygen extraction fraction (OEF) including the Carotid Occlusion Surgery Study (COSS) and the North American Moyamoya Study. Surgical treatments for basilar artery reconstruction including intravenous thrombolysis (IVT), intra-arterial thrombolysis (IAT), and basilar stent placement are also discussed. It explores the use of warfarin and aspirin to treat intracranial stenosis in the study Warfarin-Aspirin Symptomatic Intracranial Disease (WASID) and its effects in the design of Stenting and Aggressive Medical Management for Preventing Recurrent Stroke in Intracranial Stenosis (SAMMPRIS) study.
