External Coaptation of Tarsometatarsal Fracture in a Common Buzzard (Buteo buteo)

ABSTRACT
The article discusses research on a case of comminuted distal tarsometatarsal fracture in a common buzzard or Buteo buteo. It is noted that avian long bones have thin cortices and contain plenty of calcium, making them more brittle and more susceptible to injuries. The traditional methods of tarsometatarsal fracture repair are explored, and their advantages and disadvantages for use in the case are examined. The surgical treatment and external coaptation of fractured bone on the patient are described.
