This article reports that prices have surged in the North American butadiene market in May 2010 amid short supply. The price of butadiene rose from 63 cents per pound in January to 89 cents per pound in May, while the latest contract settlement rose by six percent from April. It notes that spot prices have been boosted by short butadiene supply. Since April 2009, contract prices in the European market increased by almost 260%. Tightness in the North American acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene market can be attributed to the shortage in feedstock supply.
