The visual scale has been used widely in Dentistry to determine different colors after dental bleaching with various substances, technics and equipments. This method has shown limited accuracy, being questionable, subjective and non reliable. The instrumental methods that use spectroscopes and digital images have been adequated for providing objective evaluations, greater reproducibility and reliability. This paper will show and discuss the results obtained with the use of ScanWhite - software to evaluation of the dental bleaching level and clinical decision support, which is based on the computer processing of digital images. Its main differences are: (1) Calibration algorithm to compensate the variations in the brightness of the environment; (2) results presentation in numerical values and progress graph of the dental bleaching; (3) intuitive interface and ease usage; (4) determination of indexes to support decision (index of success possibility and index of risk sensitivity before the beginning of treatment) and (5) emission of general report, authorizations and post-bleaching recommendations.
