ABSTRACT
The article examines the participation of firms in the U.S. Small Business Administration's 8(a) program, by the Government Accountability Office (GAO). It was found that some firms not eligible to the program have received sole-source and set-aside contracts. There are also instances that presidents of 8(a) firm made false statements to qualify for the program or retain certification. The GAO recommends ways on how the SBA can improve its ability to monitor fraud and abuse within the program.
