The article focuses on the life and teachings of George Ohsawa, founder of the macrobiotic diet and philosophy. After being diagnosed with tuberculosis, Ohsawa studied oriental medicine from a book by Japanese chemist Sagen Ishizuka. Macrobiotics teaches the forces of yin and yang, and the principal food in macrobiotics is whole cereal grains.
