ABSTRACT
The article presents a study that investigates the unprimed oxygenator with the fluid droplets at the blood inlet. It suggests that the recommended dry leakage test using pressurized air can give false positive results in polyurethane heat exchangers due to gas specific transport properties of polyurethane. It concludes that the suspected and unexpected phenomenon of fluid deposition inside the blood compartment boils down to sterile water condensation.
