ABSTRACT
The article discusses how the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission's civil lawsuit against Goldman Sachs Group Inc. may encourage the establishment of a universal fiduciary standard. The SEC has alleged that Goldman Sachs committed securities fraud by misleading investors about the products they sold. Goldman Sachs maintains that it is not operating as a fiduciary, but rather a market maker.
