ABSTRACT
The author discusses leading a change-averse staff through necessary changes to address state standards and testing. She engaged in a practice called futuring, named by Edward Cornish in the book "Futuring: The Exploration of the Future." It involves brainstorming with teachers, then planning and implementing changes. Recommendations include hiring staff who are interested in change and continuous improvement, keeping parents informed, and teaching staff to be comfortable with conflict.
