ABSTRACT
The authors reflect on the study conducted by G. J. Peek and colleagues regarding the performance of extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) in patients suffering from severe acute respiratory failure (ARF). The authors say that the study was able to demonstrate that ECMO can lead those with reversible severe ARF towards recovery, without having complications. The authors add that through the study, centralised care's importance to patients with severe ARF was recognized.
