ABSTRACT
The article focuses on oak wilt, one of the most unusual diseases affecting a major hardwood species in North America. The fungus was first described in 1941 after the discovery of the pathogen killing red oaks in Wisconsin. White oaks is known to recover following minor crown loss and rarely die from infection. The oak wilt fungus can have devastating consequences for some species of oaks in spite of the erratic means of insect spread.
