ABSTRACT
The article discusses research on the natural regeneration of Engelmann oak conducted for the past three years on the Santa Rosa Plateau, Riverside County, California. The work focused on acorn production, acorn germination and seedling establishment and survival including the pertinent characteristics of the mature tree. It points out that while natural regeneration in oak woodlands to replace oaks is the preferred method, artificial establishment of oaks may be required for maintaining the heritage of the oak savanna hillsides.
