ABSTRACT
The article discusses the risk of 2009 pandemic influenza A (H1N1) and seasonal influenza on pregnant women. According to the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (DOHMH) surveillance for cases of 2009 H1N1 infection in pregnant women requiring intensive care, 12 out of 17 women showed no recognized risk factors for severe influenza complications other than pregnancy. The cited case reports highlight delays in pregnant women seeking care and diagnosis and treatment of 2009 H1N1 virus infection in New York City.
