The article presents a reprint of a population-based and follow-up study on the prevalence of urinary tract abnormalities among Chinese rural children who consumed melamine-contaminated dairy products. The study conducted an ultrasound-based screening of 7,933 children of 36 months of age who lived in the rural areas of China. Results of the study revealed that 0.61% of the children have ultrasonographic evidence of nephrolithiasis or hydronephrosis and most of them were asymptomatic.
