ABSTRACT
The article reports and forecasts the financial condition of the U.S. Postal Service (USPS) The financial viability of the agency has deteriorated, with close to 12 billion dollars in losses. The agency expects that its total mail volume will decline to 167 billion pieces in fiscal year 2010 and a record loss of over seven billion dollars. The Government Accountability Office (GAO) recommends the USPS to reduce employee compensation and benefits, consolidate retail and processing networks.
