ABSTRACT
The article reflects on the views of author Jeffrey Sposato on the works of composer Felix Mendelssohn, as expressed in his work "The Price of Assimilation: Felix Mendelssohn and the Nineteenth-Century Anti-Semitic Tradition." It argues that Sposato made an assumption that the Biblical stories in the oratorio form were reflection of Jews. It states that Mendelssohn who translated the book "Terence" knew music was to make history alive and not for its manipulation. It comments on Mendelssohn's choice of Biblical subjects, and mentions that his oratorios revived the history and origins of Christian faith and revelation.
