A new analytical model for the field of microstructured optical fibers

We present an analytical model for the mode of index-guided microstructured fibers. This model exhibits essential symmetry features of the field unlike the commonly used equivalent step-index (ESI) model. The model is shown to be more accurate than the equivalent step-index (ESI) model in predicting the effective-indices of the mode. Results for the modal effective index, near and far fields and dispersion have been included.
