The consumption dilemma

The article reflects on the consumption dilemma in relation to the environment. According to the author, no responsible government is prepared to commit political suicide by agreeing to anything that reduces consumption. In the author's view, the greatest threat to human survival is mankind's overwhelming dependence on fossil fuels, particularly oil. The author asserts that the world must move to renewable resources, citing wood as the most renewable and versatile material.
