ABSTRACT
In this study, the social and economic conditions of Ottoman artisans who were producer section of cities in Bursa in second half of 18th century are investigated. While we are searching capital goods of artisans, property holdings, their credit relations, their assets and liabilities in detail, we tried to draw economic conditions of Ottoman artisans in general. It is difficult to draw picture of a prototype-Ottoman artisan because property holdings and capital goods of Ottoman artisans are different in value and variety. However, common point of all artisans of Bursa in second half of 18th century is that they were in an urgent need of cash money and they were involved in a credit relation. The striking point in their assets and liabilities is that they were in a jam and they bought raw materials from whole salers on account.
