ABSTRACT
The article reports on the institutional identifier established by the National Information Standards Organization (NISO) in July 2008 in the U.S. It states that an institutional identifier is a code that will distinguish institutions and describe the relationship between entities within institutions. An overview on the survey conducted by the Institutional Identifiers Working Group, co-chaired by Grace Agnew and Tina Feick is offered. Findings of the survey is also presented.
