ABSTRACT
The article discusses the three-year "Shaping the Future" programme of the British Chartered Institute of Personnel & Development (CIPD) which aims to bring meaning to the issue of business sustainability. It reports that the CIPD conducted case studies on several British companies who identified people management, specifically employee loyalty and employee engagement, as critical factors in sustainable performance. It identifies the roles of senior leadership, line managers and organizational development in promoting business sustainability.
