ABSTRACT
The article offers information on a new survey of the management of asthma in adults and children in the emergency department, which reveals the extensive variations in care and substantial gaps in certain main areas of management. It states that exacerbations of asthma account for 25% of the total costs of asthma care in Canada, where most common are viral infections and environmental allergens. A table that lists the risk factor for potentially fatal asthma is presented.
