ABSTRACT
The article discusses the challenges of open enrollment of benefits for employees. Particular focus is given to the experience of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg School in Mecklenburg County, North Carolina, which faced the challenge of enrolling about 18,500 workers who had different work schedules. The county school system asked the help of Benefitfocus, which provided health care software for open enrollment. Online tools are said to meet the challenge of communicating to employees the available benefits, and provides a paperless enrollment process.
