The author focuses on a report by Cambridge University researchers that online card-security protocols The Verified by Visa and MasterCard SecureCode are weak in comparison with other options. The two formats are known collectively as 3-D Secure and are used to secure online purchases. Liability for such transactions are shifted from merchants to payment card issuers.
