ABSTRACT
In this article the authors present ten teaching strategies that will help teachers and administrators to effectively prepare and support new literacy coaches to work in urban environments. The strategies include the following: building a strong, communal knowledge base, collaborating to make the curriculum visible in new ways, emphasizing culturally relevant instruction and resources, helping literacy coaches-in-training to define their roles, and supporting literacy coaches in developing a model for goal setting and coaching cycles.
